Summary:
The Heroes of Olympus book series is a continuation of the Percy Jackson book series. In Heroes of Olympus, Percy Jackson goes missing and a demigod by the name of Jason Grace appears at Camp Half-Blood. Meanwhile Percy appears at another demigod camp for Roman demigods. Then the two camps must learn to work together in order to stop the newest threat, The Giants and their primordial mother, Gaea, goddess of the earth. Seven demigods must work together to journey to the ancient lands of Greece and Rome to stop the giants and save the world.
What I liked and didn’t like:
I really loved how this series took the world of Percy Jackson and built upon it by adding Roman mythology. They added Roman mythology very well into the story by showing how there were always both camps; they were just hidden from each other. I also like how they take old characters and build upon them to greatly add to the world. For example we met Calypso in the Percy Jackson series, but in this series we learn more about her and how she is hardworking and not afraid to get her hands dirty. While this was happening they also introduced new characters that were very well thought through and designed. Another thing I liked was how unlike the point of view being from one person it was from many people through the series. I also liked how in the story people come back from the dead so we get to see many villains and other characters from old Greek myths. The series was great and so I didn’t really dislike anything about it.
What books this is like:
Like I said this is a continuation of the Percy Jackson series so I recommend you read that first. I also recommend that you read Trials of Apollo after this as it is in that same world and they have the same feel. For example in Trials of Apollo, Apollo is sent to earth as a mortal and must retake the power of the prophecies creating an adventure with lots of action like in this book. Magnus Chase and Kane Chronicles are written by the same author and are both similar and very good. Magnus Chase is similar because it deals with quests and world saving adventures; it just has a different mythology. Kane Chronicles are similar as it also has a mythological feel.
